Yolande Kenny

In 2009 I graduated from the world-renowned Central St Martin’s, London, with a First Class BA (Hons) in Fine Art. Since then I have exhibited in venues around Europe, as well as undertaking commissioned paintings of animals, people and places.

Since moving to The Kingdom, I have enjoyed painting the East Neuk’s quaint houses, quirky wildlife and passing people. From my studio at the top of the garden in Cellardyke, I can see The Isle of May and Bass Rock.

Throughout the year birds go to and fro from these islands and creel boats criss-cross busily in front of the shore. Like the sea, these create the ebb and flow of everyday life by the coast. All people and animals that live or visit become part of the landscape, which is inspiring to paint.

Watercolour is my preferred media for painting local scenes but I also enjoy painting portraits of animals and people using oils on hand-stretched linen. Several applications of translucent oil paint are layered, over weeks, to give depth and contour to the portraits.

In addition to ‘Made in Fife’, I am part of East Neuk Open Studios. My paintings, prints and cards are available through many outlets in the East Neuk, including The Scottish Fisheries Museum in Anstruther and the T.I.C.s in Crail and Anstruther.
